Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 May 2026
Cowa lets you watch videos together with friends in sync. This policy explains what data the Cowa web app and the Cowa browser extension collect, why, and how it is used. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the service.
Data we collect
- Account: your email address and optional display name and avatar, via our authentication provider.
- Room activity: room names, invite codes, chat messages, reactions, and current playback state while a room is active.
- Billing: if you upgrade to Premium, payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
- Technical: basic connection data needed to keep playback in sync.
The browser extension
The extension only acts on the Cowa site and on supported streaming sites (YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Hulu, Twitch). It:
- stores your Cowa login token and active room code locally in your browser (via
chrome.storage.local), so it can connect you to your room; - reads only the play / pause / seek state and current time of the video on those sites, in order to synchronize playback with the other people in your room;
- does not read page content, does not track your browsing history, and does not sell or share your data with advertisers or other third parties.
How we use data
To provide the service: create and run watch-party rooms, keep playback in sync, deliver chat and reactions, and (for Premium) manage your subscription. We do not use your data for advertising profiling.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of processors to run Cowa: our authentication and database provider, Stripe (payments), and our hosting providers. They process data only to provide their service to us.
Retention & your rights
We keep your data while your account is active. You can request access to, or deletion of, your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.
